What is moringa oil?

A versatile and nutrient-rich oil, moringa oil is extracted from the seeds of the Moringa oleifera tree.

Moringa seeds are rich in various nutritional compounds, including monounsaturated fats, protein, sterols, and tocopherols. The oil’s extracted by using a range of industrial techniques, such as cold-pressing.

What are the benefits of using moringa oil on hair?

We use moringa oil in several of our products as it provides a huge range of benefits, including:
  • Nourishing and moisturising: Moringa oil is packed with essential nutrients, including vitamins A, E, and C, as well as fatty acids. These components help moisturise and hydrate your strands, promote overall hair health and combat dry hair.
  • Strengthening: The protein content in moringa oil helps fortify hair strands, reducing breakage and brittleness. It forms a protective barrier around the hair, shielding it from external damage caused by pollutants, UV radiation, and heat styling tools.
  • Scalp health: A healthy scalp is vital for healthy hair growth. Moringa oil’s antimicrobial properties help reduce scalp issues like dandruff, itching, and irritation.
  • Hair growth: Moringa oil can stimulate hair growth by nourishing the hair follicles and promoting a healthy scalp environment. Its vitamins and mineral content helps improve blood circulation to the scalp, helping nutrient delivery to the hair roots.
  • Adds shine and manageability: Moringa oil's lightweight texture allows it to be easily absorbed by the hair, without leaving a greasy residue. It helps to smooth the hair cuticles, reducing frizz and adding shine.
  • Natural detangler: Moringa oil can act as a natural detangler, making it easier to comb through and manage tangled hair. It helps reduce knots and improves overall hair texture, resulting in smoother, more manageable locks.

Does moringa oil help hair to grow?

Although moringa oil nourishes your scalp and strengthens hair, it’s not proven to reduce hair loss or help thinning hair regrow.

The vitamins, minerals and fatty acids in moringa oil are beneficial for overall hair health, and can help improve the condition of your scalp and hair follicles. This creates a better environment for healthy hair growth, and may indirectly support the growth of stronger and healthier hair.

Hair growth is influenced by a variety of factors, including genetics, overall health, and lifestyle. While moringa oil can contribute to your hair’s overall health, its direct impact on stimulating hair growth may vary from person to person.

Can I leave moringa oil on my hair overnight?

Yes, you can leave moringa oil on your hair while you sleep, as it’s lightweight and easily absorbed by hair, making it a popular choice for overnight treatments.
  • Start with clean, dry hair. You can wash and condition your hair as usual before applying the oil
  • Take a small amount of moringa oil in your hands. The amount you use will depend on the length and thickness of your hair. You want to apply enough oil to coat your strands, but not so much that your hair becomes greasy
  • Rub your hands together to warm the oil slightly
  • Gently massage the oil into your scalp, working it through your hair from the roots to the tips. Pay extra attention to the ends of your hair, as they tend to be drier and more prone to damage and split ends
  • Once your hair is evenly coated with the oil, you can tie it up in a loose bun or braid to prevent oil from transferring to your bedding
  • In the morning, wash the oil out using your normal shampoo and conditioner. You may need to shampoo twice if your hair’s thick, and you’ve used a sizeable amount of oil
