If you’ve been a long-time fan of our iconic hair serums, you might have noticed something a little different on the shelves lately - our serums with new names, and a new look. But before you panic-buy your old favourites, let’s walk you through what’s actually changed with our serums, and more importantly, what hasn’t. Because while the look of our serums has evolved, the reason you love them hasn’t. You can still expect smooth, glossy, frizz-free hair in seconds - just with even smarter, more tailored solutions behind every drop. How have our serums changed? Long story short, only one of our serums has been completely reinvented: what was formerly our All-in-1 Lightweight Serum. This product has been discontinued, and we’d recommend you use our Weightless Wonder Crème as a lightweight serum alternative. The Controller Extra Strength Serum is very similar to our Extra Strength Serum. This serum has new name, fragrance and pack, but otherwise the same formula as our Extra Strength Serum. The Hydro Sealer Serum is very similar to our All-in-1 Original Serum – it has a new name, fragrance and pack, but otherwise it’s the same formula. The Rescuer Weightless Repair serum is designed to transform dry, damaged hair into glossy, healthy looking strands that feel stronger from the very first use. With BondForce Complex to rebuild and Lupine Protein to fortify, its next-generation formula visibly improves five signs of damage To summarise: If you used our Extra Strength Serum, choose our Controller Extra Strength Hair Serum If you used our Original All-In-1 Serum, choose our Hydro Sealer Original Hair Serum If you used our All-in-1 Lightweight Serum, choose our Weightless Wonder Crème If you need a lightweight, repairing hair serum, choose our Rescuer Weightless Repair Serum Our serums’ elevated packaging and updated fragrances are designed to add a little extra something to your everyday styling routine. However, one thing hasn’t changed - the performance you know and love is still at the heart of every formula. Our serums still provide smoothness, shine, heat protection and long-lasting frizz control - now with even more precision. Why have John Frieda’s serums changed? Because frizz isn’t one-size-fits-all - and your haircare shouldn’t be, either. Over time, we’ve learned that frizz can be caused by different things: dryness, damage, or external factors like humidity. And while one serum used to try and do it all, we saw an opportunity to do something better. So instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, the new collection is built around the three root causes of frizz, giving you a more personalised way to smooth, protect and control your hair.
Meet our new hair serums The Controller Extra Strength Serum: For stubborn, hard-to-tame frizz If you loved our original Extra Strength Serum, you’re in safe hands. This serum for thick hair has an iconic formula that remains unchanged - but what has been updated is the packaging and fragrance. Still delivering powerful frizz control, humidity protection and glossy shine, The Controller is your go-to for thicker, coarser or more unruly hair. The Hydro Sealer Serum: For dry, dehydrated, frizz-prone hair Formerly known as our Original Serum, The Hydro Sealer targets one of the biggest causes of frizz: lack of moisture. This serum for medium hair the same as our All-In-1 Original serum, but with a new fragrance and pack colour (it was red, now it’s blue). Now with a 72-hour hydration lock, this hydrating hair serum helps keep hair feeling soft, smooth and visibly healthier for longer. The Rescuer Weightless Repair Serum: For damaged, brittle or over styled hair Meet the newest addition to our serum family. The Rescuer has been designed for hair that needs a little extra care, helping to visibly repair signs of damage like roughness, dullness and split ends, while keeping hair lightweight and touchable. Perfect for fine to medium hair, this lightweight hair serum delivers strength, smoothness and shine without ever weighing your style down.
John Frieda hair serum FAQs Can I still use John Frieda hair serums the same way as before? Yes - absolutely. Apply to freshly washed, damp or dry hair, focusing on your mid-lengths and ends. The way you use your serum hasn’t changed, so you can slot it straight into your routine. Do the new serums still fight frizz and humidity? They do, and just as effectively. Each serum delivers long-lasting smoothness, with up to 3-day frizz protection and 90% humidity resistance, so your style stays sleek for longer. Do they still protect against heat? Yes. All Frizz Ease Serums continue to help protect your hair from heat styling, making them the perfect partner for your blow-dry or styling routine. Why does the Rescuer Weightless Repair serum feel slightly different? We’ve refined the textures of our lightweight serum to feel lighter, smoother and easier to apply - without compromising on performance. Have John Frieda’s serum formulas changed completely? No, not across the board. The Controller and The Hydro Sealer Serums are the same as our Extra Strength and Original serums – just with new fragrances and packs. However, our Lightweight serum was discontinued. A great alternative is our Weightless Wonder Crème; it’s designed to provide daily protection against frizz, while leaving your hair light and airy.
