Low-maintenance low bun or ponytail:

Having an updo hairstyle for work, such as the low bun or low ponytail, is the perfect answer for a cool and sophisticated look which requires minimal effort and time.

Step 1: Create a centre parting and brush into shape

The foundation for a sleek low bun or ponytail is a clean and sharp centre parting. We recommend using a brush or tail comb to create even symmetry, and then start angling and directing your hair in place behind your ears.

Step 2: Secure your locks

Then using our Moisture Barrier Intense Hold Hairspray, you’ll want to hold your locks in place while adding shine to your crown by evenly spraying all over and then following with a brush to keep those flyaways at bay.

Alternatively, we recommend using our Light Volume Hairspray which adds more volume as well as holding your hair in place.

Step 3: Create your ponytail

(If you are creating a low bun, ignore this step.)

Create your low ponytail, securing it with a hair band. Try to avoid splitting your ponytail in half and tightening as this will cause bumps to appear.  This is an incredibly simple work hairstyle which can be done in a very short amount of time every morning.

Step 4: Creating your bun

(If you are creating a low ponytail, ignore this step.)

To create your low bun, you want to twist your ponytail from the bottom and then keep twisting until your locks start to lift. After this you want to start wrapping around the base of your ponytail.

Step 5: Secure and tidy

Now you have finished your pony or bun, you’ll want to secure with either a hair tie, bobby pins or even a clip. Lastly clean up any flyaways using our Secret Agent Touch Up Crème to smooth away any stray hairs.

If you’d like to try something different with long locks, we’ve got more easy hairstyles for long hair that are work-appropriate and can be done with minimal effort too.

Quarter Pony:

For a flirtier take on the half up, half down look, try making your top pony into a quarter instead of a half for a more styled look. Sectioning your hair into a quarter will make it easier to separate since it’s a lighter volume of hair, while creating a higher pony with more volume on both the top and bottom.

Step 1: Separate

Starting just above your ears, start to separate and section off the top half of your hair, gently pulling all of your locks up to the crown of your head.

Step 2: Equal sides

Ensure both sides of your hair are even – using a brush or comb to help achieve straight sectioning. Then secure your quarter ponytail at the base with a hair tie.

Step 3: Secure and Tidy

Now you have finished your locks, you can either curl the bottom section of your hair and secure with Moisture Barrier Intense Hold Hairspray, or leave natural. For any loose flyaways in the top half, we recommend using our Secret Agent Touch Up Crème or Weightless Wonder Crème if you have finer hair.

Tips:

If you want to achieve a sleek hairstyle, pull the quarter ponytail firmly till it is tight and high.

If you want a more laid back/slightly messy hairstyle, gather and secure the top half of your hair loosely. Pull down a few face-framing hairs to soften the look even more.

You can develop this look even further by creating your top quarter into a bun, helping to make a more ‘put together’ bun hairstyle for work.

Slick straight:

Want to look like you’ve made the most effort for the office with minimal time spent? Create a slick style that radiates glossy glamour with our favourite sleek straight look that’s perfect for short hair.

Step 1: Pre-heat

Dampen or wet hair with water, either towel drying or using a spray to spritz all over.  Applying to mid-lengths and ends, use mousse when hair is damp for a longer lasting look. We recommend using our Volume Lift Thickening Mousse or Fine to Full Blow-out Spray to create additional volume that holds your locks in place without the stickiness.

Step 2: Blow-dry

Start to blow-dry hair away from face, sectioning ear to ear and placing the hairdryer at the root to ensure you create a slick look that’s still full of volume. Ensure you glide your hairdryer from the front of your head to the back so that your hair is all following the same direction.

Step 3: Finisher

Apply hairspray to hold your hair in place, spraying 30cm away from your head all over. Once your hair has dried, go back with either a hairspray and a toothbrush (weird combo – we know!) to tidy away any baby hairs or flyaways around the frame of your face or alternatively apply a wax/crème to smooth these down. Either our Moisture Barrier Intense Hold Hairspray or Touch Up Crème would be most suited for this.

Tip:

For a slicker, more natural look, use a round brush to brush though your locks once hair has set. This look is perfect for creating a headband hairstyle for work featuring your favourite hair accessory!
