While there are no other products like this sold in the same retail outlets as John Frieda® products, there are competitive products available. However, unlike Luminous Color Glaze™—which is extremely easy to apply and clean up—those products can cause significant staining.
Is this a patented technology?

Yes, Color Illuminating Technology™ is patented because it’s a breakthrough technology. It contains a unique delivery system that allows the dyes to penetrate the hair cuticle, eliminating the need to apply heat for 20 minutes. It’s a blend of mild cosmetic dyes and shine enhancers that deposits even color and shine for luminous results.
Does it replace hair coloring?

No. Since Luminous Color Glaze™ products don’t contain peroxide and cannot lighten hair, it won’t cover new hair growth at the roots. The formula is designed to enhance and optimize the look and feel of your hair color, shine and texture. To cover new hair growth and maintain an overall even color, you should continue to color your hair.

What To Expect

Will this damage my hair?

No – this product contains no ammonia or peroxide and will not damage hair short term or long term.
How often should I use it?

To see and feel the benefits, use Luminous Color Glaze™ product every time you shampoo and condition your hair, or at least three times per week.
How long does it take to see results?

You will see the shine and texture benefits right away, and the color effect within the first 3 uses.
Will I get to a certain usage point where the color benefit will peak?

The color benefit varies from person to person because it depends on how often you use Luminous Color Glaze™ products, how much you use and how often you shampoo and condition your hair. In general, the color benefit will peak between 2 and 4 weeks. After this, it will help you maintain your ideal color and brilliant shine.
Is it heat activated?

No, it does not require heat. The unique penetration system allows the mild dyes to enter the hair strand without heat or causing damage.
Will it weigh my hair down?

No. Luminous Color Glaze™ products are a blend of mild dyes and shine and texture enhancing silicones. Since the product is applied in the shower and then rinsed out, the right amount of product will be absorbed, and any additional product will rinse off. The product is sheer, lightweight and for use by all hair types.
How many applications are in each bottle?

The current packaging is 6.5 fl. oz. (192 ml), which should last between 20 and 25 uses, depending on the length of your hair. If you use it every time you shampoo or a minimum of three times a week, one bottle should last approximately 4-6 weeks.
What is a glaze treatment like in a salon?

In a salon, a glaze treatment can be either semi-permanent or demi-permanent color. If it’s semi-permanent color, it can last from 1 to 3 weeks, depending upon the application process. For the glaze to last longer, heat is applied for approximately 20 minutes, which forces the color to penetrate into the hair shaft.

If it’s demi-permanent, it uses oxidative dyes and a low level of peroxide. These glazes can last as long as 5 to 6 weeks, but do actually damage the hair. Both types also require professional application by a stylist and can cost anywhere from $40 to $90.
